Georgia here is the country between the Black Sea and the Caucasus, not the state with Atlanta in it. People ask, so it gets said once at the top. - The case sits still for four nights and then five, so nobody is packing in the evening. Coming with you daily: water, one warm layer for 7,000 feet even in July, cash in small notes because village cellars do not take cards, and shoes that handle gravel.
- What the rhythm buys, and what it costs
- Unpacking twice buys you eight unhurried evenings and a village that knows your face by the third night. The cost is that the mountains stay a day trip: you see the high valleys between 11 am and 5 pm, sleep three hours away from them, and two of your nine days are mostly windshield.
- Who this rhythm does not suit
- Anyone who gets carsick on switchbacks should not book this, since the north road has about 40 minutes of continuous turns in each direction and there is no shorter way around. It also fails anyone who cannot manage 14 steps with no elevator, which is what the guest house has, and anyone who would rather wake up in the mountains than drive to them.
The last row loses this desk bookings and it stays on the page anyway. A rhythm that does not suit you is far cheaper to discover here than on the fourth morning.

Picking the month
May, June, and September into mid-October are the months that work. Harvest in the eastern valleys runs from about the second week of September to the middle of October, and during it the cellars are full of people actually working, so tastings get shorter, less rehearsed and better. Those same weeks fill first, and the figure above sits at the top of its range.
July and August reach 95 F in the valleys, and the villages empty out between one and five in the afternoon. The mountain road is open and the driving is fine, but you spend both mountain days watching the air conditioning work.
We would talk you out of two windows. The first is the front half of January, when much of the country is closed for its own holidays and half the family cellars receive nobody. The second is any week from late November to early April, because the high pass north closes for snow with no notice, and a closed pass turns a 6 hour mountain day into 6 hours of not much.
Four decisions that close with the booking
Room grade in the capital comes first: a courtyard room is quieter than a street one and adds about $180 across the four nights. Then which room takes the longer half, five in the wine country as printed, or flipped to five in the capital if the cellars matter less to you than the city does. Then whether the mountain day is one day or two, since the second adds a full car day and another early start. Then the date, which settles the flight price and the harvest question in one move.
