Taiwan Vacation Package: Two Bases Over Ten Nights
Two rooms, ten nights, one train ride in the middle. This Taiwan vacation package covers the capital and the east coast, and tells you outright which weeks of the year we would rather you skipped.
What two bases means on this trip
Ten nights, two rooms. This Taiwan vacation package puts five nights in the capital in the north and five on the east coast, joined by one train ride on the morning of day six. You unpack twice and that is the whole of it. Everything else runs out and back from a room you already know.
- Beds across the trip
- Two rooms across ten nights: one in the north for nights one to five, one on the coast for nights six to ten. There is no third room and no overnight in between.
- How the bag moves
- Your suitcase moves once, on the morning of day six, and you handle it yourself for about 200 yards of platform. It stands still in a closet for the other eight days.
- The longest single move
- The day six move, door to door, runs about 3 hours 20 minutes: two short taxi rides, roughly 30 minutes of waiting, and 2 hours 10 minutes on the express service down the coast.
- Time actually spent moving
- Around 11 hours of the whole ten days are spent actually moving: the day six leg plus four day trips of 40 to 90 minutes each way. That is close to one day in ten.
- What stays in the room
- The suitcase, the spare shoes and the chargers stay in the closet for five days at a stretch. What goes out every morning: a rain shell, water, small notes in cash, and the return train time written on paper, because the signal drops inside the gorge and the valley.
- What the rhythm buys, and what it costs
- Two unpackings get you a capital city and a coastline without a third airport or a third check-in. The cost is five days each and no more; if two coastal days go to rain or a road closure, they are gone, and there is no spare window later in the trip to put them back.
- Who this rhythm does not suit
- Anyone who wants the south, the west coast towns or the offshore islands as well should book something else, because ten nights split two ways cannot reach them. It also suits nobody who expects the base to be changed mid-trip when the forecast turns; both rooms are held for their full five nights.
The last row loses this desk bookings and it stays on the page anyway. A rhythm that does not suit you is far cheaper to discover here than on the fourth morning.

The months that hold up and the months that do not
October and November are the steadiest weeks on this island. The north dries out, the coast sits near 77 F, and the sea stays calm enough that the cliff road keeps its lanes open. March and April come second: cooler and grayer in the capital, reliable on the coast.
Typhoon season runs July into October, and August and September carry the most storms. A typhoon rarely takes a whole trip. It takes two or three days out of the middle. Coastal roads close first and reopen last, and the express service stops while a warning stands. We will book August if you want August, and you will hear before you sign that the coastal half is the half that gets eaten.
Two stretches we would argue you out of: the middle of September, highest storm count and thinnest alternatives, and the ten days around Lunar New Year, when trains fill months ahead, kitchens close, and both rooms cost about 40 percent more for a smaller trip.
What is still open on the day you say yes
Four things. Room grade in each base, since the coastal room splits garden side and sea side with about $30 a night between them. Which half takes the sixth night, because the ten can run 6/4 either way and the coast uses an extra day better than the city does. Whether the gorge day goes in at all: sections of that road have been shut since the 2024 earthquake, access is decided by the park authority and not by us, and if it is closed we put the rift valley in its place at the same price. Then the date, which sets the train reservation.
